Healthy Families,
Strong Communities

Our vision is to build a community where every family, single parent, and individual facing hardship has the support, skills, and confidence to thrive.

OUR MISSION

To reduce hardship, strengthen resilience, and improve wellbeing by providing practical support, financial skills, employment pathways, and community‑based activities.

OUR AIMS

Our aims reflect our commitment to reducing hardship and supporting people to build stable, independent, and fulfilling lives. Through practical support, skills development, and community-based activities, we work to address the immediate challenges people face while also creating long-term opportunities for independence, wellbeing, and connection.

Our aims are to:

  • Prevent or relieve poverty by providing practical support and early intervention during times of hardship.

  • Build financial confidence and independence through accessible money skills, guidance, and long-term resilience.

  • Support people to move closer to employment by developing skills, confidence, and access to education or training.

  • Improve social, emotional, and mental wellbeing by reducing stress, building confidence, and supporting positive mental health.

  • Strengthen community connection and reduce isolation by creating welcoming spaces for connection, participation, and belonging.

WHO WE SUPPORT

Who We

Are For

We support people most affected by poverty, financial stress, social isolation, and limited access to opportunity, with a particular focus on families, single parents, and individuals living on low or tightly budgeted incomes. Many of the people we work with are experiencing ongoing cost-of-living pressures, insecure or limited employment, or uncertainty about how to access the support and services available to them. Some are managing physical or mental health challenges that affect daily life, while others feel isolated, disconnected, or lacking confidence following periods of hardship.

Our support is designed for those who want to move forward but may need practical help, encouragement, and guidance to do so. We work alongside people who are seeking to build skills, confidence, financial independence, and a stronger sense of stability for themselves and their families. By providing accessible, community-based support in a safe and welcoming environment, we help people feel heard, valued, and supported.

At the heart of our work is the belief that people are not defined by their circumstances. We support individuals to move from Participants to Partners — taking ownership of their journey, building resilience, and contributing positively to their community in ways that feel meaningful to them.

SERVICES

What We Do

01

Poverty Prevention & Crisis Support

We provide essential items and practical help to support individuals and families during times of immediate hardship. Our poverty prevention and crisis support focuses on relieving urgent pressure, stabilising households, and ensuring basic needs are met with dignity. This includes access to food, clothing, household essentials, furniture, and basic items, alongside small hardship support and clear guidance to help people navigate crisis situations and access further help where needed.

02

Skills, Employment & Education Support

We support people to move closer to employment, education, or training by building confidence, practical skills, and readiness for work. Our support includes job search guidance, CV writing and application support, interview preparation, and assistance accessing vocational training. Where practical barriers exist, we also help with essential tools, books, and travel costs so individuals can fully participate in training or learning opportunities.

03

Financial Skills & Independence

We help individuals build confidence and control over their finances, supporting them to make informed decisions and develop positive money habits. Our financial skills support includes budgeting and money management guidance, raising awareness around debt, encouraging savings habits, and helping people understand the financial options available to them. This work aims to reduce financial stress and support long-term independence and resilience.

04

Social, Emotional & Mental Wellbeing

We promote positive social, emotional, and mental wellbeing by creating welcoming spaces where people can connect, feel supported, and build confidence. Through community activities, sports and physical activities, arts and crafts, volunteering opportunities, and peer support, we help reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and strengthen a sense of belonging within the community.

OUR APPROACH

Our goal is to protect what you care about most

What makes Family Nest CIO unique is our commitment to providing whole-person, community-based support that goes beyond short-term help. We work alongside people at every stage of their journey, combining practical support with skills, confidence, and wellbeing to create meaningful pathways towards independence.

Our approach is rooted in strong local relationships, lived experience, and a clear focus on long-term outcomes for families and individuals facing hardship.

Our approach is defined by:

  • Whole-person support — supporting people from crisis, through stability, and towards independence.

  • Practical support with empowerment — combining essentials with skills, confidence, and wellbeing.

  • A focused target group — working specifically with families, single parents, and individuals facing hardship.

  • A cluster-based approach — delivering support directly within trusted, accessible community spaces.

  • Local roots and lived experience — bringing deep community knowledge, cultural understanding, and compassion.

  • A clear pathway to independence — prioritising long-term stability, confidence, and opportunity over short-term relief.

St Andrew’s & Docklands is where our work starts. Why?

Strong

Relationship

We have established trusted relationships with local residents, community groups, and organisations, allowing us to engage people quickly, listen to real needs, and deliver support that is relevant, responsive, and trusted.

Welcome from Local
People, Councillors
& Partners

Our work has been welcomed and supported by local people, councillors, and partner organisations who recognise the need for accessible, community-based support and are committed to working collaboratively.

Free Community
Space for
Activities

Access to free, local spaces allows us to deliver activities in welcoming, familiar environments, reducing barriers to participation and ensuring support is accessible to those who need it most.

High Levels of
Hardship & Cost-of-
Living Pressures

The area experiences significant financial pressure, with many families and individuals affected by rising living costs, low incomes, and limited access to support, making early intervention and community-based provision essential.

Long-Standing
Knowledge of
Local Families

Our team and volunteers bring long-standing local knowledge and lived experience, enabling us to understand challenges in context, build trust quickly, and provide culturally aware, compassionate support.

A Strong
Foundation
for Growth

Together, these factors make St Andrew’s & Docklands the ideal place to launch our pathway-based, cluster-led model, creating a strong foundation that can be sustained locally and replicated in other communities over time.
